The reconstruction work on the Front Rd. bridge at Cataraqui Bay has resumed after the City took the unusual step of terminating the original contractor.
In a notice published on the City’s site, it announced its intention “through a competitive process, to find a new contractor to complete the bridge project.”
In the meantime, the bridge will be temporarily restored to four paved lanes. Weather permitting, the repaving will be completed by the end of the day this Friday (17.Jun.2016).
BackgroundCity Council approved the contract for Greer Galloway to refurbish the Front Road bridge near Dupont in late 2013.The company had since asked for additional funds to cover unexpected expenses but the city said in its announcement that it had never received sufficient details to evaluate the requests.
